There's Nothing More Fulfilling

Sanctuary Hospice’s volunteer program seeks to provide patients with comfort, peace, and care during their end of life journey through holistic options, including: companionship, music therapy, reiki healing, art therapy, pet therapy, and our flower program.

  • Direct Patient The volunteer serves as a friend to the patient, providing companionship and emotional support. Patients and volunteers often share hobbies and  special interests, such as table games, cards, listening to music, watching movies, discussing sports, travel, and life stories.
  • Music Therapy Musicians volunteer to make a positive difference in patients’ lives by playing relaxing, joyful live music for them. Music therapy provides much-needed physical and emotional relief for hospice patients.
  • Reiki Healing Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing through energy movement. A volunteer who is a certified Reiki Healing Master provides Reiki sessions to hospice patients who request the service.
  • Expressions Art Therapy Art students, professional artists, or anyone highly skilled in art visit our patients’ homes to get to know them and create a special work of art in-person for the patient and/or their family. The art piece is whatever the patient requests; perhaps a sketch of their favorite animal, a drawing of a dream they once had, a watercolor of their favorite place, or an ink drawing of a special memory.
  • Pawsitive Pals Pet Therapy Our volunteers are owners of certified pet therapy dogs who provide comfort and emotional support to patients.
  • Blossoms of Love Every week we receive donated flowers from a local grocery store. Our creative volunteers create beautiful floral arrangements which are then hand-delivered to our patients. Nothing spreads happiness quite like receiving flowers!

We also have volunteers assist us in our office with day-to-day administrative tasks.

  • Administrative volunteers file, assemble hospice packets, copy, affix labels, assist with mailing, and other various office activities.

Volunteers play a vital role in hospice care and help provide activities that can enhance quality of life while bringing true joy to patients facing terminal illnesses. Volunteers are also important in easing the burdens associated with end-of-life care for families and loved ones. Volunteers are friends and supporters to patients and their families, not experts or authorities. No prior medical knowledge is necessary. If you would like to talk to someone or learn more about volunteering with Sanctuary Hospice, please feel free to contact us.
